I got inspired by the just passing by Halloween. It could be understood as a play mixing up the western festival and Japanese Kawaii culture. Halloween is unfamiliar and fresh for me, as a foreigner. It is always carved with evil face, so I want to bring something new.

However, what I truly want to talk is the darkness of the politics, the falsity in political propaganda. Under the current chaotic circumstance and zero covid policy, Chinese people were sad and confused. Conversely, in the government‘s propaganda, we all seemed positive and optimistic.

I understand, even though we are real people, in the government's eyes, we are pumpkins that could be carved with the faces meeting their needs. The pumpkins are the props in the festival, the Chinese people are the tools to advertising the Government’s administration.

Besides, I made the face cute, kawaii, because as Natalie Angier said, cuteness means vulnerable. In my eyes, the people are weak and powerless, they have no threat and are left to be shaped by the big hands.
